In my apartment, my printer was sitting on one of my tables but it kept getting in the way of our T.V. My dad recommended making a box to put my printer on and still have space to put stuff underneath. I got to work on it with him and it was extremely fun! We went to home depot and got some 1 X 12 X 8 pine and created a box. The wood only cost around $11.
The wood only came in one length so we had the guys cut it in half. Then we went home and measured the length and width of the printer and cut those pieces into the sizes we needed. This was done using a regular table saw and I believe it came out to a 20″ length for the top, bottom and back side. For the right and left side we cut it at around 10″ give or take. Definitely measure first to make sure your box is wide enough and long enough to hold your printer.
Next went the screws. We did 3 on each of the short sides and 4 on the longer sides. Not sure which screws my dad had but any standard one that’s long enough to not go through the other end are fine. Here’s a picture of the box when we finished building:
Now that the box was completed, it was time to paint! My dad had some un-opened black spray paint so we just used that. Only one coat needed and voila! Our finished box:
Holds my printer nicely and has plenty of space under for our paper, cords, etc. This is a really cool and inexpensive way to create more storage space under your tables. All you need is an imagination and some screws.
Happy printing!(:
